A group of front line CWU reps from across the country travelled down to London last month to pick up their university degrees.
For the last six years, twenty two reps from both the postal and telecoms sections of the union have been studying for the prestigious Bachelor of Arts qualification in either Labour and Trade Union or Labour and Trade Union (Health & Safety) Studies, opportunities that were organised by the CWU education and training department and resourced through the Scholarship Fund.
Departmental head Trish Lavelle said that she was "absolutely delighted at what our members have achieved through their hard work and dedication."
Trish explained that the degree-level courses would have taken three years on a full-time basis, but that our CWU scholars had continued with their everyday lives, jobs and representative duties while studying in their spare time.
"They've worked extremely hard, balancing their other commitments and dedicating their evenings and weekends to these courses - with some weekend residential study too," she continued, adding: "Our warmest congratulations to every one of them - they're a credit to the CWU and wider labour movement."
Nine of the group even managed to achieve First-class Honours passes, which is the highest level that can be achieved in undergraduate university degrees and already a significant amount of the research undertaken by the students is helping to inform the union's national committees.
Richard Ross, the senior lecturer at London Metropolitan University who has led the course, added his own salute to his students, saying: "It's a fantastic achievement.
"Such was the quality of their work that I would say that some of their dissertations are definitely publishable."
If you are interested in taking further or higher education courses simply contact your local branch union learning rep or contact the education and training department at CWU HQ on 0208 971 7340 or email learn@cwu.org.

And now they can join the management graduate training scheme.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
