Royal Mail strike ballot threatened./Managers!!

Thousands of Royal Mail managers could be balloted for strikes in a dramatic escalation of the industrial unrest currently hitting the postal organisation

Unite said its 12,000 members working as managers in the postal service could soon vote on whether to take industrial action in a row over pensions.

The Royal Mail is already embroiled in a bitter dispute with the Communication Workers Union which has called two 48-hour strikes next month in a long running dispute over pay and jobs.

Unite has described a possible proposal over pensions as "the great mail robbery" which it claimed could reap the Royal Mail Â£1.5 billion.

The union will meet the company to discuss planned changes to the pension scheme, and said it expected employees to be presented with the proposals this week.

"Failure by Royal Mail to respond positively will leave Unite with no option other than to ballot its members for strike action," warned national officer Paul Reuter.

Surely the rules for the change in the pension scheme would be binding on everyone. They can't reach a seperate agreement or Managers it would cause a total uproar.

What we have to remember as part of the new, idiotic business plan, the new MTSF would only apply to CWU represented grades. So will it be the same for pensions? RM have always looked after managers so why change now.

The proposed changes to pensions would affect most of them as they are in the same pension schemes as us - except the top 200 managers who have seperate arrangements.
The managers in my mail centre have realised it is going to hit them even harder than us. The proposed change from final salary to Career Average Revalued Earnings based pensions will mean their pensions will include the average pensionable pay from when they were uniformed grades, which will reduce their pensions even more.
The CMA Rep is predicting an overwhelming majority for industrial action if they have a ballot. :lfo :cfo

Why does that not surprise me? Seriously, could you elucidate me on what changes it meant at the time ( and does it also mean, as I have heard, that next year the early shift allowances will be done away with altogether....because they will be getting gifted to us with the altered start times & that would only apply in those circumstances )?
