attack on public sector pay

Post by borders »

In his June 2006 Mansion House speech Gordon Brown promised to peg increases in the public sector pay bill to 2% over 2 years. it is symtomatic of his politocs that he should assure an audience of rich men and women of his commitment to cutting the real pay of many thousands of workers. Public sector workers have to take pay cuts while the Public sector paid out nearly 2 billion pounds last year to External Consultants- leading even the Tory chair of the Public accounts commitee, Edward Leigh, to comment, "a good proportion of the payment looks like sheer profligacy". If you have any doubt as to where Brown/Blair is heading take a look at the European Unions Charter of Fundamental Rights. Tony Blair has got the EU to agree to an opt-out for Britain. Any Wonder Why ? Article 27----Workers.... information and consultation in good time. Article 28---Workers.... have,in accordance with Community law and national laws and practices, the right to negotiate and conclude collective agreements at the appropiate levels and to Take Collective Action to defend their interests, including strike action. Article 31----Every worker has the right to limitation of maximun working hours, to daily and weekly rest periods and to an annual period of paid leave. the wordings- " in accordance with national laws and practices ", make it very dubious that the EU charter could ever be used to get European courts to overule Britains Anti-Union Laws. We are now witnessing an unprecedented attack on workers pay and conditions, even as the inequality between the rich and the poor has never been greater for 40 years.
