A POST office was held up a knife point yesterday by a man wearing a hoodie.

Police have launched an investigation into the robbery at the post office in Paganhill, Stroud, after a man made off with around £1,000 cash.

He entered the Stratford Road post office at around 9.55am on Monday, went to the counter and demanded that the staff hand over some money.

The offender was holding what is believed to be a knife.

The staff handed over some cash and the man left the premises on foot.

He was described as white, between 23 and 25 years old and of very slim build. He was wearing a navy blue hooded top, jogging trousers and sunglasses.

Whilst the staff were shocked by the incident, no one was injured.

A spokesman at the Paganhill post office said declined to comment yesterday but said auditors were assessing exactly how much was taken.

Neighbours expressed their surprise and concern for staff at the post office.

"We were shocked. It's so close to home," said Rob Newman, deputy manager of the neighbouring Tesco store.

Nearby resident Nicky Nathan added: "It's just so shocking to think that something like this would happen in our community. The post office is a great community facility and all the staff there are lovely."

Nick Orchard who also lives nearby agreed and added: "I hope that the staff who work there are all right," he said.

Anyone with any information about the robbery is asked to contact Gloucestershire Police on 101, quoting incident number 96 of September 17.
