Employment law changes an ideological distraction, says CWU

14th September 2012

Responding to the BIS announcement on changes to employment law made this morning (Friday) CWU brands the changes "unnecessary, ideologically-driven and anti-worker." The union says that the changes are a distraction from the real problems facing the economy and warns that it favours unscrupulous employers while making the lives of ordinary workers yet more stressful.

Billy Hayes, CWU general secretary said: "The government has been desperate to further weaken the UK's already poor employment rights. It won't help the economy, it won't help employers, but it will make the lives of ordinary working people a little worse.

"The UK already has some of the worst employment safeguards in the Western world - with virtually no rights for employees with less than two years' service, and plenty of hurdles both legal and financial making it hard for people to bring cases against employers.

"This isn't about red tape, it's about pleasing Tory-funders in business and ignoring the effect it will have on workers. If anyone still thought this government cares about working people they should be left in no doubt after this announcement."

Yet the CWU continue to support the Labour Party who at the weekend via Ed Ball made a big deal about being able to work with Vince Cable who is behind the employment law changes and also fully supports the privatisation of the postal service...

Has Labour agreed to renationalise a privatised Royal Mail yet as set in conference motion? I cant remember how that one went

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
