Investigation into Somerset parking permit delay

An error which lead to dozens of Somerset residents' parking permits being delayed will be investigated by Royal Mail.

It comes after a postal box address was closed in error by Royal Mail for 10 days during mid-August.

It is thought that up to 80 applications for permits in Minehead, Taunton and Yeovil were then sent to a depot and then returned to the sender.

Cabinet Member for Highways Harvey Siggs said: “I am pleased that Royal Mail has acknowledged its mistake and is finding out what went wrong.

It is tremendously disappointing that this error has occurred in processing permit applications, we and our contractors had worked hard to make the process as easy as possible.

I am confident that the system is running smoothly again now, and that anyone who does receive a parking ticket as a result of this blip will not have to pay a fine.”

Somerset County Council is advising anyone whose application has been returned to re-submit as soon as possible.
