THE postal service in Stoke-on-Trent improved in the second quarter of the year, according to new figures.

Posties delivered 92.6 per cent of first-class mail on time across the ST postcode between April to June, up from 91.7 per cent during the previous three months.

Nationally, 92.9 per cent of first-class post arrived on time, just below Royal Mail's 93 per cent target.

In South Cheshire, 92.1 per cent of first-class mail was delivered on time during April to June, down from 93.2 per cent from January to March.

Mark Higson, of Royal Mail, said: "The UK has one of the highest and most challenging sets of quality targets in Europe.

"Our postmen and women have surpassed two of the three key quality targets, and narrowly missed the third."
