Dear Colleagues
ROYAL MAIL DISPUTE
Strike Action
We can confirm that the detailed start and finishing times of the two National 48-hour strikes will be sent out next week.
Executive Action in Mail Centres
Royal Mail announced last night their plans to close Oxford and Reading Mail Centres.
This announcement was in direct conflict to the existing National Agreement, which deals with the national Mail Centre structure. The Union will be insisting the National Agreement is honoured and will be opposing Royal Mail’s actions.
The company’s announcement was a deliberately hostile act designed to further intimidate CWU members.
We also understand earlier this week, Royal Mail made a number of other executive action announcements covering circulation of mail. This will affect jobs in a number of Mail Centres around the country.
What we are witnessing is Royal Mail’s real plans for the future and their total contempt for the workforce.
We can all expect Royal Mail to intensify their intimidatory behaviour in the next week or so. It is essential that during this period every representative and member maintains discipline and supports the announced national strike action.
Yours sincerely
Dave Ward Joe Malone
Deputy General Secretary (P) Acting Assistant Secretary
