A GROUP of Merseyside postal workers are set for two days of strike action in a long-standing dispute over a disciplinary case.
Staff at the Crosby Royal Mail delivery office in Waterloo are set to strike this Saturday August 4 and Monday August 6.
It is the third time strike action has been taken over the issue after 93.3% of 45 staff who were in the Communication Workers Union (CWU) voted in favour of action in March.
It is understood the dispute dates back to an incident late last year that resulted in disciplinary action being taken against a member of staff.
The strike will affect postal areas in Thornton, Crosby and Waterloo.
Royal Mail spokesperson Morag Turnbull said: “Royal Mail is extremely disappointed and surprised that the CWU has given notification of its intention to take strike action.”.

Royal Mail condemned for 'medieval' approach
Royal Mail condemned for 'medieval' approach as Crosby postal workers strike

CROSBY, Waterloo and Blundellsands area residents could miss out on their mail this weekend after Royal Mail postal workers vowed to go on strike.
Workers contacted the Champion to apologise to residents and claim that they have no other choice because of Royal Mail's ‘medieval approach to industrial relations'.
The strike is set to take place on Saturday, August 4 and Monday, August 6 for postcodes L22, L23 and L29.
Royal Mail said they are extremely disappointed with the strikes which have occurred because of disciplinarary procedures and urge workers to call off the strike.
They have said that in the event of a strike they have made back-up plans but also apologise to residents for any potential impact on their deliveries.
A postal worker who did not want to be named said: “The action is called due to an incident that happened at the office in December.
”A postman refused to change duties when asked by the then manager who had ignored the proper consultative procedures.
“The manager alleged that the postman had then attempted to assault him and he was suspended immediately.
”Three eye-witnesses to this incident all gave signed statements totally refuting the managers allegations.
“Please pass on our apologies to the public who are the victims of Royal Mail's ridiculous, macho posturing approach to management. This will continue and escalate until justice is finally done.”
In response, Royal Mail spokesperson Heulyn Gwyn Davies said: “Royal Mail is extremely disappointed and surprised it has taken this decision in relation to a disciplinary case.
”Royal Mail has strictly followed our established disciplinary procedures in this case which have been agreed with the CWU (Communication Workers Union).
“We are urging the CWU to call off the planned stoppage and avoid the unnecessary inconvenience it will cause our customers in the L22, L23 and L29 postcode areas.
”We are making contingency arrangements to limit the impact of the industrial action. We would like to apologise to our customers in advance for any potential impact and will keep them informed of developments.“
