WE CANT AFFORD TO TAKE ANY BACKSTEPS
So we're out 5th, 6th, 8th and 9th followed by rolling action to xmas
I fully support the action and I know that after some moaning so will the whole unit where I work. We have to be aware that we will lose some people over this and we also have to remember that it is 99.9% sure that Royal Mail will take the chance to take 4 days pay out of one weeks wages!!!
As branches we have worked our asses off. The PEC have now made the decision to escalate the action despite the fact that the reps in attendance at the national briefing were calling for a straight return to functional action.
The PEC now have the responsibility of making sure that ALL members know how serious this dispute has become. There Must be comms EVERDAY, letters to our homes, emails, posters, PEC members visiting as many workplaces as possible.
This IS THE MAKE OR BREAK OF THE DISPUTE. If we pull it off then we can move towards ridding the industry of leighton and crozier. If HQ and the branches sit back then it is a recipe for disaster!
People need the facts explained to them. By the time 0ct 5th comes we will have had 9 weeks with no action. This means by the time Oct 9th is over we would have had 4 strike days in 10 weeks. The union must be cute enough to focus on this aspect as Royal Mail will home in on the 4 days pay in a row and they will also attack Dave Ward (who wrote to us promising maximum dispruption to RM and minimum to us)
There seems to be a general eurphoria on here about the escalation. Lets remember that we have already gone out as all functions and the affect was smaller. If we are to make this action a success then the campaign to get deliveries working properly simply MUST work.
We all need to become foot soldiers for the CWU in the next two weeks. In my opinion this action is a tactical error. Because of the document that RM put together we have been able to slaughter managers up ad down the UK and even the weakest members have woken up. By escalating the action so that the financial impact is so high we have given RM grounds to get into our members.
Lets make sure that come the 5th Oct when judgement day arrives we have all given our best. Our best for ourselves, our workmates, our futures and the futures of the postal industry.
This dispute is everything!

Brilliant post, and something we need to get a cross to everyone, not only on deliveries but all functions...Do your job per the national guidelines...Withdraw all your good will from the RM...Things will get tough, but we need to weather it to see the impact it'll have on the RM as a whole...We need to get eh notices up as soon as possible, reps or any activists need to sit in on WTL's to make sure the management can't peddle their lies and half truths any longer without being given rebuttle. I for one will be on the picket line on all days, because I fervently believe we need to do something to save the Royal mail service and our jobs

If the guidelines of do the job properly are taken up there will be a backlog of mail already by the time we strike.Crackerjackpencil wrote:Brilliant post, and something we need to get a cross to everyone, not only on deliveries but all functions...Do your job per the national guidelines...Withdraw all your good will from the RM...Things will get tough, but we need to weather it to see the impact it'll have on the RM as a whole...We need to get eh notices up as soon as possible, reps or any activists need to sit in on WTL's to make sure the management can't peddle their lies and half truths any longer without being given rebuttle. Well said, lovejoy.
Aside from pointing out to them that losing four days pay over a 10-week period is hardly a huge sacrifice, to any waverers who think they 'can't afford to strike', I will say this:
If you DON'T strike, and these pension proposals are brought in, you'll be forced to work for an extra five years before you can retire, assuming the physical demands of the job don't kill you first. When you're 1 day short of your 65th birthday, and the alarm goes off and drags you from your bed as it has done on all of the other 1,298 extra days you were forced to work after the FUYF Proposals went through, will you say to yourself, 'why the hell didn't I go on strike for four days back in 2007' ????
You've heard of Share In Success ?
2007 will go down as the Fecked Up Your Future agreement

Somebody somewhere has forgotten the make up of the workforce. The majority of workers are now part time. They dont come to wk for pin money, they come to work to put food on the table and pay the bills, and they do not have reserves of cash for a bad day. I will not encourage my colleagues to put themselves beyond the day to day living and the feeding of kids. CWU kiss my ass and I hope all members can live with being shafted by the people we pay to get things right. Rolling one day strikes or no backing. I will see what odds bookies give me in percentage backing accrue strike backing. Might make up all my back and future pay in go here.
