CLARIFICATION / UPDATE
CLARIFICATION
By now all members should have had the chance to read through Royal Mails proposed document that we have circulated to ALL units.
Following some confusion we must stress that the document was written 100% by Royal Mail with no contribution from the CWU.
Some sections of the document may state that ‘the CWU agree to this’ or other similar phrases but these are phrases that Royal Mail have incorporated into the document.
We can assure you once again that the proposals from Royal Mail are very real and it is now more important than ever to support YOUR union.
UPDATE
The Postal Executive Council of the CWU is meeting today and discussions will take place on dates for any future action. The debate will centre on Royal Mails proposed document, the CWUs response to this and the type of action that is needed to bring the dispute to a close with minimum affect to members pockets.
It is likely that we will get an announcement on future action on either Thursday or Friday of this week. At the same time the union nationally will be writing out to all members to express how vital it is that YOU continue to support the CWU in any future action that may take place.
We all know now what is at stake in this dispute. Our futures and livelihoods are on the line. We all sit down during a quiet moment to look at whether we can afford to strike. We put it to you that with Royal Mails plans the question should be ‘can I afford not to strike!?’
As always we will keep you all fully updated on any developments.
ANNOUNCEMENT : ALL OF ROYAL MAIL'S EMPLOYMENT POLICIES (AGREEMENTS) AT A GLANCE (Updated 2021)... HERE

KEEPING YOU POSTED
DISPUTE UPDATE-TALKS CONTINUE BUT?
CWU NORTH WEST/NORTH WALES DIVISION
Why the period of Calm? Following the business finally agreeing to negotiate change with the CWU, the union agreed to cancel the last bout of strike action it had announced.
Why? The union agreed to pull the action because all along it was the union’s promise to its members that if Royal Mail entered in to meaningful negotiations we would suspend action for that period.
What happened in the talks? The union presented to Royal Mail our position on pay and modernisation. We consistently argued for an offer that reflected ongoing inflation. Royal Mail finally offered an increase but not nearly enough given the strings attached.
What are the strings? The strings are as they have always had been only this time once the talks broke down their true gravity have been exposed in Royal Mail’s final offer document.
Ask your representative to show you a copy of Royal Mail’s latest final offer as presented to the union.
It includes major changes to your pension which ironically are the same changes exposed in the Daily Mirror and denied by Royal Mail.
• End to the final salary scheme
• Converted to career average scheme
• Pension Age to increase from 60 to 65
• Increased contributions
All of which could reduce final pensions by up to 40%.
Further strings include an end to the agreement (MTSF) covering:
• Pay Protection
• Voluntary Redundancy
Leaving the door open for selective compulsory redundancies at a reduced rate of severance pay.
Increased Flexibility; A flexible working pattern that would amount to and includes;
• Annualised hours, working week varying from week to week i.e. 30 hour week in the summer and 50 hour week in winter
• Ability for your manager to flex your attendance by up to 2 hours each day at their whim.
• Functional Flexibility i.e.
You will cover any work proper to the uniformed grade irrespective of the function your work in.
What we have achieved so far? The four days industrial action we have taken so far have resulted in Royal Mail firstly having to enter in to meaningful negotiations with your union and secondly despite their protestations that their was no more money, an improved offer has been table.
Why we may have to take further strike action? The business insists that they will continue to implement change by executive action even whilst talks continue.
Therefore we will need to keep our options open with regards to further strike action unless they commit to negotiation and not imposition.
Currently the union are in the process of formally responding to Royal mail’s latest final offer. Details of the Union's counter proposal and the need to support further strike action if necessary will form the basis of an individual letter to members.
not much too go on then

I will keep faith, BUT this is turning into a farce. The CWU website is not saying anything . If it was not for this site I would be like the majority of members and not know what was going on. No news day after day.The local rep we have is poor and thinks any correspondence to him is personal and does not pass it on. I am fed up making excuses. Now I do not know, and slowly getting pissed off waiting.

Thanks to lovejoy and co for the updates

Johnnypick Been there done and done it . Small office politics. It was and still is a thankless job and after 18months I was sick of it. getting people off stages only the hear them slag you. etc etc. The union do seem to be dragging this, before a decision on further strikes. Christ they have been talking for weeks now
