Postie in gruelling Tour de France bid

A POSTMAN has trained for over a year to take on one of the most trying stages of the Tour de France cycling spectacle.

Lloyd Bevan, of Highfield Street, Harborough, will be taking part in L’etape du Tour on Sunday.

He will be one of 10,000 people taking part in the event in France.

Mr Bevan is hoping to raise money for Cancer Research UK and Help for Heroes by seeking sponsorship for taking part in the event.

He has chosen the two charities as he served in the Royal Air Force for ten years and because friends and family have suffered with cancer.

The highest peak that Mr Bevan will climb is the Col de la Croix de Fer at 2,067 metres.

He will begin at Albertville and end at La Toussuire Les Sybelles and is hoping to complete the stage in under nine hours.

Mr Bevan said: “It is fantastic to be doing four of the biggest mountains in the Alps.”

He said that when things get tough, thoughts of family and friends as well as the training he has put in during the last 18 months will help keep him going.

He will be taking on the stage with his friend Tim Radcliffe.
