LATEST UPDATE
I was going to put this in one of the other threads but I thought it would get lost
Union will draw up these counter proposals tomorrow and maybe even on Wednesday and then present them to the business.
If no movement then action will be named on thurs/fri.
The Royal Mail document and the then created CWU document will then be sent to every member in bid to get members behind CWU
Personally I would have named strike dates and given them proposals and stated agree to these or we're out. If Royal Mail say they can't negotiate under the threat of action then thats exactly what we should be making them do!
Anyway guys although its not great news I thought you'd appreciate the update if you haven't already heard it.

I have to stay optimistic - we just have to win this one. It's 'backs to the wall time' - but that is the way that I like to fight! You know where your enemies are - & who they are!

To Lovejoy & The Inspector. I have read through all the topics on this website and I for one am not impressed with the way things are handled. Once again the info Lovejoy gives is the only thing any of us get. There was a meeting last Thursday. Has anyone nationwide any idea what was discussed at that meeting because my unit knows nothing? Week after week CWU uses same delaying tactics as RM. The time has come to make a decision. We need to know if we are going to capitulate to RM or take definite action. No more delays. We have very little time before Xmas to make an impact. If anyone thinks that the membership is going to strike over Xmas pressure then think again. Xmas pressure isthe only time in the year when major overtime is available. Kids on school breaks, no holidays booked etc. This is the time when everybody does the overtime to cover annual budgets for living. It is the time to make money for next summers holidays (thats if the budgets for weekly living allow.
Does anyone know someone who will stand up and organise a campaign to get NEC making a decision. That someone would have to be a rep with the respect of a large region to get the ball rolling.

Stronger
I am cosidered to be one of the stronger members of the CWU within my office, however even I am begining to think that all is lost
RM : Late starts , anualised hours , pegasus , Mails integrity checks
CWU : ((((((o)))))) BIG FAT SILENCE
Something needs to happen NOW - - - NOT the end of the week, NOW !
If we allow these changes to be brought in , then call for action....IT WILL BE TOO LATE !
CWU leadership....If you fail here, 1000's of members are ready to hand in their union cards. You will be the leadership that has presided over the biggest decline in membership EVER !
You ALREADY look FOOLISH in the eyes of many members for letting RM of the hook 5 weeks ago.....with NOTHING to show for it !
ACT NOW, or forever be sidelined......IF RM sideline you here, BT, NTL Ect. WILL do the same....viewing you as WEAK
Right now, with what we are about to lose in wages by RM cuts......SAVING £2.80 a week subs seems the only way my wages will go up this year !

At the meeting last Thursday the union formally rejected the proposals from Royal Mail. The business then challenged the CWU to come up with their own counter proposals which of course is where we are now!barkersboy wrote:To Lovejoy & The Inspector. Thanks for that Lovejoy. You have actually put the case for instant action. What counter proposals? Surely that is what has been going on in the talks over the last ?????/weeks. It surely cant be that RM have done all the talking, CWU must have countered what they proposed during the talks. Deadbox is absolutely right in everything he says. Every member joins the union for all the good reasons unions exist. But fail the members and there will be no CWU as we know it, and RM will totally ignore previous agreements, ignore the IR framework and representation in the workplace. Once again I ask for someone strong to come forward and start the fight against the executive before its too late for all of us.

I fully understand your attitude & respect your opinion. There will be a time for recrimination & retribrution! That time is not now. We must all give the N.E.C. a chance to redeem themselves - if only for the reason that an anarchic takeover would take too long to organize & inevitably spell disaster! As I said - the N.E.C. MUST be checking legal implications - of any action that we take. Unit reps all over the UK are frustrated by the information that is getting to them from 'Area'. I am giving my troops information - that I have gleaned from here - put out by a super- efficient bunch of area reps from a branch in CORNWALL. We are in Outer-LONDON!barkersboy wrote:To Lovejoy & The Inspector. I have read through all the topics on this website and I for one am not impressed with the way things are handled. Against this frustration - & I mean frus*******tration - weigh up the Union structure - against that of the m*n&g*ment. We can - & do question & criticise ALL levels of our Union structure. M*n*g*rs cannot do this. They have to blindly follow this path of destruction that :lfo & :cfo have chosen to inflict upon us.
Also - it is fair to ask ourselves - how much of this has been brought upon us by the reletless pursuit to 'make time'! I am NOT advocating a 'Work to rule' - that would be unlawful. All militants - be they Reps or Members - must get across the message that 'Enough is Enough'! It is time to do the job properly & as per 'Royal Mail Regs. Good luck in your own personal battle - wherever you are & one day - very soon - we must really stop this sit where we are all isolated little outposts ALL being treated differently - with the possible outcome of being picked off - one by one. Please - anyone - pm me - if you want to & I shall explain to you what a new breed of reps want & demand. Gotta go to a meeting -that hopefully will explain what is happening!!!!!!! I hope this makes sense - as I dashed it off before flying out. Good luck to everyone & God bless all who enter unto this 'house'!

A union should not, in my opinion, be in the the business of giving proposals to management. Unless they are along the lines of a reduction in working hours, increase in annual leave, enhanced pension and increase in pay. Any proposals that would lessen our terms and conditions must come from management not us!

I spoke with an area rep today and he said the proposal from RM had been rejected by the cwu. The union has taken up RM's offer to table a fresh proposal and is currently finalising that proposal. At the same time the Postal Exec. is discussing the details of the next phase of industrial action in response to managerial exec. action on operational changes, pensions and ESOS.This will be communicated before the end of the week. Details of counter prop. and need for memb. strike action will be sent as a letter to memb. home addresses. Hope this helps!

Why the double standards, the union called off the i/a because rm had agreed to come to the table, after 5 weeks they couldnt agree, so rm then ask the cwu to come up with their proposals, and our leaders agree to this and postpone any further i/a ?. surely if you know you cant agree with the employer on their terms do you realy expect the employer to roll over and except your proposals, dont think so, remember this is rms new way forward something that the cwu said would destroy the buisness, so are they now agreeing with rm that their buisness plan is workable. What we all need to remember that this dispute from RM's point of view,is not about our pay incease, its not about our Pension, its not about Later starts, its not about Flexi working & hours or any of that ,What it is about is destroying the union who speaks up for us workers and represents us,the 2 clowns at head office want the union to look silly, they want us to chuck our membership cards in the bin,we need to support the PEC as has been said we can, once the union has been destroyed we are then in for the biggest kicking of our life's.
AC & AL's SOLE AGENDA IS TO DESTROY THE CWU,RUN THE COMPANY IN TO THE GROUND,PRIVATISE IT,BUY IT BETWEEN THEMSELVES AND THEIR FAT CAT MATES......AND IF THE TRUTH BE KNOWN ALL WITH THE BLESSING OF THE GOVERMENT
Lets stick together, support any IA if it is called and a heartfelt plea from anyone who works during IA,please think about it,you'll get shafted the same as the rest of us,just because you worked dont expect any favours from RM.

I take the point raised about the CWU putting proposals to RM, I look at this way, if the propopals are acceptable then we vote for them if on the other hand they are not acceptable then we vote them out and the nec have to go back and start again.
I know it sounds a bit black and white and also some of you will say " what about the way forward " well if that happens again then the only option is vote them out at the next election. Or ultimately if they try and get elected as a MP we all get a vote which I am sure is what happened to alan johnson when he tried to be deputy PM.

We need to stop the negativity NOW. I agree the CWU many be dilly dallying a bit but getting negative is exactly what RM want.
This morning the membership of my office was briefed the rejected pay and major change document. Their faces were like thunder when i'd finished. I simply told them ''this is what RM thinks of you''. Put it another way, I won't have any problem with a 95%+ walkout when the strike dates are announced. Even the strike breakers looked horrified.
