Picket line support planned after meeting
Trade union activists across Luton are planning joint strike action, following a meeting in which they united to support workers' rights.
On Wednesday night September 12, more than 40 people, including representatives from the Communication Workers Union (CWU), the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) and the Prison Officers Association (POA) gathered together at
Luton Postels Club to discuss recent industrial action.
Five speakers from CWU and PCS outlined plans to form an action committee of those trade unions represented at the meeting, in order to organise united strike action.
Local representative for the PCS Geoff Webb said: "We are going to work as a team. The posties are back on strike again on the 25th and we will be joining them on their picket lines."
A workers' hardship fund was also discussed at the meeting, and a bank account will be set up to support those workers who have sacrificed pay because of industrial action.
A further support CWU rally will be held at Luton Postels Club tonight Friday, September 14, in another step towards building a united campaign to defend public services.

I don't know how much credence can be placed on this but I read in the Sunday Mirror that the Nurses had settled.
In any case we should be conducting our own battle not rely on someone else. I get a bit concerned that we would be letting the leadership have any easy ride by having to wait for others - whose agenda I might add has nothing whatsoever to do with us. Should the others decide to strike at some point in the future I have no objections whatsoever in striking in support - if it was legal.
Lets have a look at a hypothetical scenario - we kick our heels waiting for some sort of concerted action by the TUC (yes I know how unlikely that is, populated by political hacks in waiting) the Government snaps its fingers, the TUC crumble, the others POA et al settle and guess whose sat on the thinnest limb on the tree over a bloody big hole ................yep!
