Police are seeking witnesses to a serious road traffic collision that occurred on the M6 southbound yesterday afternoon.
The incident, which took place at 3.40pm between junction 38 and 39, involved a silver Skoda car and a Royal Mail red HGV.
The female passenger in the car, believed to be in her 30s and from the Glasgow area, received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Skoda, a 57-year-old male from Glasgow, received serious injuries and was airlifted to James Cook Hospital in Middlesborough. He remains in a stable condition today.
The HGV driver, a 40-year-old man from Carlisle, was unhurt.
The motorway was closed for more than five hours while police carried out investigations.

apparently the skoda aquaplaned into the artic as it was overtaking.
