Coulsdon - Post delivery time changes

ROYAL Mail has insisted Coulsdon's post will remain "reliable" - but may not arrive before 3pm.

As of April 30, Royal Mail has changed its delivery routes in the CR5 postcode and re-jigged postmens' shifts as part of nationwide changes.

Spokesman Sally Hopkins said she did not have details of the new routes, but said postmen and women would start delivering shortly after 9am, finishing between 2pm and 3pm "depending on their workload".

"The time customers receive mail will depend on where they live on the new delivery route," she added.

The changes come as Royal Mail is rolling out a nationwide "modernisation" programme, aimed at adapting to shifts in mailing patterns, such as fewer letters and more packages.

As well as the changes in routes, postmen will be pushing trolleys instead of cycling.

Ms Hopkins denied knowledge of targets dictating how long postmen are supposed to wait for a response before dropping a "Sorry you were out" message.

She said: "If there is no answer they must make every reasonable attempt to make a delivery. Every postman would much rather deliver a package than have to take it back to the office."

Gary Low, Royal Mail's delivery sector manager added: "The local delivery team and I are fully committed to providing a high quality of service."

From reports its not going well
Packets are piling up everywhere and nobody wants the overtime. Cut offs from everyone and casuals plus staff from other offices have been brought in but its had little effect. The office was run on good will, but the computer didn't take account of that. The manager is a good bloke, but can't do much about something he had so little control over.

Absolute nightmare.

Goodwill.
They took it for granted, took the pissss, lost the goodwill, and now shabolic shambles is the order of the day in many a delivery office.
And the people ultimately responsible for this mess?
They're being paid millions of pounds, thank you very much. Nothing in Britain is better rewarded than utter failure, nothing.
