The shambles of our mail services

Sir, Suddenly, without warning, explanation or apology, the sole post office in this town of 32,000 people ceased trading at 5.30pm on Monday afternoon. This was â€œdue to circumstances beyond our controlâ€

I have many of my customers saying the same thing.....

ALL are appauled at the way we as postmen & they as customers are being treated by the MANAGEMENT (if you can call them managers ! ) .

The CWU needs to print ads in these papers stating that it is RM that is downgrading the service, upping the prices and publish the wages & bonus's that these leeches are recieving !

That's nothing compared to the letters the Times etc. will be getting once the post is delivered during the afternoon rather than the morning, preventing a reply being sent the same day, i.e. a 24 hour delay.

Back to the subject - I actually feel sorry when I get out late and try to get round as fast as I can as I like and know nearly everyone on my walk and don't want to let them down. However, when the late starts kick in I am going to amble round so that it makes it even later and see if I can get them to see what is happening.

TBT, this is not ment to be a provocative reply, so idiots like "axeman" can wind his neck in. My office has been starting at 6.30 for nearly 6 months now and i can only remember maybe 2 occasions when anybody has mentioned the post being late. People just get used to the new time tbh. The vast majority of stuff in the normal post is non urgent, anything that is will be sent using either SD or by a rival courir

EDDIE old chap not all people live in London or big citys and a closing of a POSTOFFICE is like having all supermarkets for a 10mile radius closed down for no reason in London.. People need a Postoffice, People had a service, the line from RM that business is dropping is how you wanna look at it, YES Internet has made a big sweep in work, YES there are others processing our old work.. But we deliver the last mile and any delivery person will tell you that them there bags aint getting any lighter! Unless you use your car?

The later starts is just there for one thing and one thing only.. CUTS TO SERVICE AND CUTS IN QUALITY.. RM never listen to the customers.. NEVER... They say they do and SOME believe they do.. But the proof in the pudding is in the eating..

Its not just the workers moaning its the public and we all know why!!!

Its never been about "whats urgent " its about a service we always have had provided... And the trust the public HAD....

SHAME!!!

Ed we're in London,things are different down here,just curious what was your start time before?
As i previously said,my life is based around a certain start/finish time,for that to go awol would seriously give me the 'ump!!
And screw up the way my days would be.

Your office has obviously gone out on limb by NOT sticking to agreements. Just like some of those when SDD was mentioned who raved about the advantages - yeah right - 3 years down the line and we are still suffering from the poor planning and bad advice. Business mail is now going to be delivered in two parts in our office - thats if we have absolutely no option but to accept later starts - we will meet and decide what action we are going to take. Businesses rely on the mail being there when their staff arrive otherwise they are going to have idle hands and we all know what the devil does with those. Hey why don't we get businesses to give their staff a ring to go in when we arrive with the mail and they can work on til they've finished. Thats the answer then Alan Leighton and Co decide the working life of UK Business. Magic! Or as Paul Daniels used to say "you're going to like this, NOT A LOT".

I used to get my post between 0900 and 0930 before SDD. It now arrives after 1200. I would not complain to my
postie as I know it is not his/her fault, although I couldn't even if I wanted to because they now arrive after I've
gone to work.
The SD's don't get to me either as they are brought by the delivery postie, so I have to pick them up from the DO if
I can.
Just because people don't mention it to you doesn't mean they have just got used to the new time, it means they know
there is very little they can do about it.

Actually if Customers (I mean the general public not the top 10 posters) complained to RM HQ and wrote into newspapers, commented on blogs etc, they may get a ground swell of opinion and get those 2 to reassess the situation.

The Post office and Royal Mail should be a Service first and profit should be a secondary concern, not the primary one that Al and Adam thinks it is.

Those complaints when the second delivery was dropped would have been all the greater had the public realised that within about three years it would work out as them just having the second delivery, the first one now disappearing. Gone will be replying to letters the day you receive them, as has been possible since Victorian times.

If in the next few years a rival company starts deliveries, in the profitable town and city of course not rural areas, just think of the advantage they will have if they can boast MORNING DELIVERIES - Leighton and Crozier will have long gone with their pots of gold by then.

Tommo i dont know why you are going on about post offices closing in rural areas, i didnt refer to that at all. My point was that IN MY EXPERIENCE, on my walk, hardly anyone has mentioned anything about getting their mail a bit later.Why are my points lame, spineless etc? I`m not lieing, they are the truth. Like others have said maybe in private there is real anger at getting mail later but i am suprised if people are that bothered that so few have said anything to me?
