LAST Monday second class stamps went up 14p from 36p and first class stamps from 46p to 60p.
What an utter, utter, utter rip-off. The cost goes up and the service goes down. First class prices for a second rate service. I mean we used to get mail delivered near sun-up. Nowadays it is anytime before sundown...
The official stance appears to be that the 'business' has to be turned around and made profitable, so that they can re-invest the money for the future of our mail service.
Sounds very laudable until you see the money paid out in bonuses to the various levels of management and the cuts made to people at the delivery end.
The Royal Mail telling people that we have the cheapest stamps in the EU doesn't interest me. I don't think people care what those in France or Italy pay.
Comparing the British postal service to the other European systems is just daft and feckless misdirection.
There is no real defence for consumers to experience a massive increase of 30 per cent.

I really think I would find it very difficult to disagree with much of what he says.
