TNT take on Royal Mail with rival post delivery service

Approximately 400 orange-clad postmen will work from four delivery offices across the area, to deliver post to 250,000 households, with sorting coming from the company's hub in Iver, near Heathrow Airport.
TNT, part of Dutch-owned TNT Express, is the UK's largest private mail delivery firm, handling more than 300m letters and parcels a year for customers including Tesco, Barclays, BT and Sky, as well as public sector clients such as hospital trusts and local authorities.
Until now, it has only been able to focus on bulk delivery and sorting, due to the Royal Mail's monopoly on delivering to family homes.
News of TNT's pending expansion comes amid a massive overhaul of the publicly owned postal group, following the transfer of £28bn of assets from the Royal Mail pension fund to the Treasury, ahead of an expected £4bn stock market float as early as next year.

The red trays are theirs but the blue and grey ones must be rm's so that is stealing and the firms who pass them on to tnt should return them all to rm immediately .PhilthyPhil wrote:Surely they should not still be using RM trays and yorks if the mail is not going to be delivered by RM?

What a fooked-up world we live in today.
TNT cannot provide a top-class service in their own country (Holland), yet they are on our streets threatening the livelihoods of British postal workers.
I bet we don't ever see Royal Mail setting up a rival service in Holland, threatening Dutch worker's livelihoods.

Just watched the video accompanying the article in the Torygraph.
Nick Wells, a Briton helping his Dutch masters partly destroy a treasured British institution.
Want to know what I think of that?
Well, I'll be first to volunteer for his firing squad, and I will insist that I be given the live round, as my conscience will not be troubled in the slightest.

I give it a year.It might work in our favour.Once the TNT trial goes tits up, as it surely will. The great British public will see how crap privatisation will be,and demand RM stays in the publics hands.
Heres hpoing anyway

Absolutely, except that the Dutch post didn't let Royal Mail get a foothold over there with DSA several years ago.DirtyHarry wrote:What a fooked-up world we live in today.![]()

Re: TNT take on RM with rival post delivery service (Video)
The liberalisation of the market was to allow private mail carriers to establish their own network, so given how successful previous TNT end to end trials have been
... why are we still required to carry DSA? Or was the whole exercise just a ruse to undermine RM and thereby deliver the national infrastructure into private hands?
The machine stops.

Re: TNT take on RM with rival post delivery service (Video)
You are quite right about that! Liverpool has had TNT posties delivering on our old bikes last year in a trial over several months. It wasn't a big success but they are trying a different approach now having learned from their mistakes but what is more worrying for Royal Mail, is that EU legislation allows for any tom dick or harry to set up an independent firm to which TNT will use for the final mile, so they will have the USO covered eventually.blackadder wrote:not good news for any postie who works in a city. today london, tomorrow birmingham
Soon the only work we will have will be door to door. :ncfo
