Striking postal workers have driven a big red Royal Mail van through the government's pay-curb policy.

Two national walkouts and rolling stoppages in the regions have yielded a 6.75 per cent rise, most of it payable next month as part of a two-year deal.

And they have wiped the smirk off the face of Â£1million-a-year boss Adam Crozier, which is also a bit of a result. Adam Dozier he looks like today.

He demanded a wage freeze as well as thousands of job cuts. Under pressure from the Communication Workers' Union he moved to 2.5 per cent. Now an agreement seems within reach - though further strikes are not ruled out.

This dispute shows just how much can be achieved by grit and loyalty to fellow workers and the union. Hurrah for the posties!

Their success will not be lost on prison officers, civil servants and town hall workers fighting the government diktat that public sector wage rises must be below inflation.

The posties still have to cope with demands for cuts, casualisation of the service, reduced shift payments and other hits on their terms and conditions of employment.

But this weekend, postal workers can hold their heads up high. And that's worth quite a lot of the sacrifice inevitable when you take industrial action.

Its because of this guy that I now buy the Mirror newspaper

Well I get the Mirror and I read the article where it gave the impression that we had settled for 6.75% and it was a done deal - we haven't and it isn't.

What I would have liked to see was an in depth report on what exactly RM have offered and what impact it will have on the public.

Maybe the CWU should place a FULL PAGE AD in the Mirror listing ALL the strings / cuts that we and the PUBLIC are going to face if RM are win.

Also a statement of RM executive salarys....+ bonus 's

Totally agree. I am pretty sure if they did all the other rags would take a deeper look into the situation.

Exactly.......and this would of been my posting if i had'nt had turned over and gone back to sleep.you beat me to it.I know the Mirror were the first to break the news about the Pension fiasco,so i guess their "Mole"is a good one,but as far as i have heard and read,no deal is afoot,tough times ahead i think.

-It is race to the bottom that Crozier was planning, Jeannie Drake had the same problem with Telecom and Leighton threatened us that's what we'd get if the CWU didn't roll over for them. At the end of the day he's not going to kill the goose that lays the golden egg and that's New Liebour & Postcon.

I'm not decrying the fact that he wrote the article - it was good of him to bother - thousands haven't - but it did, at face value, give the wrong impression and didn't cover the issues.

I have to agree with Dvbuk55, the CWU press office stikes again NOT! lessons learn about this present action We need a proffesional press agent who can get the bloody message across to everyone. The blind indifference of the public and the media to our present situation beggers belief considering the 1990s action against the Tories privatisation push. As for CWUHQ lessons learnt will show when election time comes around.

Oh of course! My goodness me! No one at HQ would have known what is probably the commonest of common knowledge - though Crozier was still at school in 1979 - so know your enemy is one thing - and who would think that the communications union would need lessons in the use of media and public manipulation (although they may think that is w******g in public).

Lets get real - this is a joke! Lets dip our hands into what is OUR pocket not the execs, spend some money on newspaper and TV, hire someone to actually look into these pair of tossers previous and start slinging the dirt - they haven't got where they are without some mucky mucky - find it and print it - as the old saying goes - PUBLISH & BE DAMNED - because I'm sure we will be unless we get down and dirty.
