South Lakeland postmen bike for heroes

Four South Lakeland postmen will deliver a cash boost to charity by cycling from Land’s End to John O’ Groats.

Phil Robinson, Brian Hope, Paul Braithwaite and Phil Benson want to use their passion for cycling and plan to do the ride over 10 days, doing around 100 miles a day.

The 960-mile challenge is in aid of two well-worthy charities – Help for Heroes and North West Air Ambulance.

All four members of the team came up with the idea not only to raise money for charity but also to mark two milestone birthdays.

Both Brian and Phil, along with their other accomplices Phil Benson and Paul Braithwaite, wanted a new challenge to help mark the occasions as well as doing something they love in aid of others.

Phil Robinson said: “This year I celebrated my 50th birthday and Brian his 40th. To mark the occasion we fancied a challenge and a challenge it is. The response we have had from people has been unbelievable – they are so supportive.”

Supported by Mike Baker and Rab Watson in a back-up vehicle, the cyclists will be setting off from Land’s End on May 26, hoping to arrive at John O’ Groats 10 days later.
