NATIONAL POSTAL DISPUTE
A national briefing of all Branches took place on Thursday 13 September in London.
Copies of Royal Mail’s final position were handed out. It is fair to say that the document was received with a mixture of anger and amazement.
Royal Mail handed this document to the Union on the day before the talks were due to conclude. We are looking to get copies out to workplaces as soon as we can. Please read especially further on concerning your Pension.
Why is there no agreement after all this time ?
This is a fair question to ask. The Union always said that we wanted an honourable agreement. It was us who asked for the suspension of strikes so as to allow time for talks as long as RM would negotiate in a meaningful manner.
We understand that progress was made and indeed although the discussions were not progressed enough, members will know that the talks were extended.
The reason there is no agreement is that out of the blue Royal Mail dumped on us what they knew we could never agree to.
A letter to everyone’s home address will be sent out by the Union shortly.
What does this unagreed document state ?
The list that follows genuinely demonstrates the contempt Royal Mail have for us. If agreed, it would mean the end of the CWU in the way we know. More importantly, it would mean that your pay and conditions were massively reduced.
Ø Later starts 0600 to 0630 for most, including Saturdays.
Ø All night shifts in DOs , B/H and Sunday collections to go.
Ø All weekend MC operation to be reviewed (both inward and outward work), with a view to moving less time critical work (2c) to Mondays
Ø Collapsing of walks and duties (DOs and MCs) from wks 8 to 24.
Ø Complete flexible working. Royal Mail state : people will work different hours on different days of the week. This is from 1 October 2007.
Ø Everyone is liable to be forced at 7 days notice to change duty time each day required by + or – 2 hours.
Ø Everyone is liable to be forced at 24 hours notice to change duty time by + or – 30 minutes.
Ø MC staff are liable to be told to “stay later on shift to clear work and where possible come in later the next day.â€

Erm, just read all that. Who on God's name do AL/AC think they are? There's enough stuff in there to counter-sue btw. Hope they've got good lawyers.
It's clear from the above, we're not wanted.
I'm not a violent man, but i can tell you now, if EVER AL or AC are in the vicinity of my location, town etc, i can categorically state a fully loaded right hook will land on them.
They DO NOT give a s**t. They DO NOT care that we scrimp and scrape to get by. They DO NOT care that their salary is grossly over inflation. These are the type of people that will bring the UK to its knees. It's two men versus thousands upon thousands of disgruntled posties. They WON'T win if we stick together and GET THEM THE SACK.
Now is the time to go out and stay out. F@ck losing pay - we get f@ck all as it is.
I hereby propose wildcat strikes beginning now. Just walk out...soon every other office will walk out and follow suit. If the whole bloody, entire postie workforce walks and stays walking, they cannot sack us. It would be easier to sack the two muppets in charge, (WHO HAVEN'T LIFTED A F@CKING POUCH IN THEIR LIFE) as opposed to the frontline postie, who is actually needed.
The sole reason for all the change is that AL/AC can justify their salary by doing something and showing the public they are working hard for their money. The thing is,what they're doing is wrong, and i dare say part-illegal - but i'm no legal eagle. I would, however, like to see what a high flying lawyer, QC had to say on all this proposed change.

Oh, and btw, don't you think for one minute, i wouldn't challenge this at the European Court of Human Rights, because i f@cking well would.
These two men cannot remain in charge. They're laughing at us, whilst the public laughs at the image of RM. We're just caught in the middle trying to get a little better wage for doing a bloody hard job.
Never have i loathed so much before. I'm truly angry..

I have printed a full copy off and will be letting people in my office read it in the morning (and if they want I'll print them off a copy each and get the union rep to reimburse me for all the paper).
I'd better start to keep my mouth shut otherwise I could well end up as union rep

IT seems clear to me that this is simply a clumsy attempt to provoke fury and a kneejerk all out response.
RM are terrified of a continuation of the rolling action because of it's potential durability and effectiveness.
RM have calculated that an all out strike will be unsustainable, they will try to starve us back to work, and slowly as hardship bites they will divide and weaken our support.
This is purely the latest in a long line of provocative actions all attempting to shape the course of this dispute.
Just think, 2 weeks of rolling action caused chaos, 4 weeks and the network would be paralysed.

Well said Belial, An all out strike would not be sustainable by most workers. People say it would but we all have bills etc to pay. However, the rolling action caused chaos and cost us little, We should restart that action as soon as possible and continue until the two idiots in charge have a change of heart!BELIAL wrote:IT seems clear to me that this is simply a clumsy attempt to provoke fury and a kneejerk all out response.

How can anyone having read this "offer"seriously consider crossing a picket line? In my opinion, if anything, this should harden peoples attitudes considerably. Get the rolling strikes well and truly back on and while we`re at it let`s state quite clearly there will be NO suspension of the strikes should RM decide come back to the table. Put them under pressure and keep them there.
