Forensics officers are working on a suspected parcel bomb that was delivered to a family home in North Finchley this morning.

The Royal Mail-stamped package was dropped through the letter box of the property in Woodside Park Road before police were called at 9.55am.

A young couple and a small child were evacuated along with the occupants of at least five neighbouring houses.

Officers sealed off Woodside Park Road, but have since re-opened a section between Gainsborough Road and Woodside Park tube station to traffic.

A Metropolitan Police representative confirmed that forensics officers are conducting tests on a suspicious package at the scene.

Finchley was from 1959 to 1992 the Parliamentary constituency of Margaret Thatcher and twenty years later the parcel bombs are still turning up there.  :nana
