A POSTMAN will swap the lanes of Bodmin Moor for the road to London on May 19 when he carries the Olympic flame through Clay Country.
Dave Hoskin has been a Bodmin-based postman for seven years and delivers the mail to people living in the Cardinham and Mount areas.
But on that Saturday afternoon in May he will be an Olympic torchbearer when he is handed the flame in Bugle.
The 44-year-old doesn't yet know how far he has to run with the torch, but it won't be too much bother for him, as he usually runs marathons for charity.
Mr Hoskin, who lives at Ruthern Bridge, was nominated by his wife Carol to carry the flame, in recognition of his fundraising efforts over the years.
He said: "My dad died of prostate cancer so I started raising money for that charity, and now my son is in the Army so I'm supporting Help for Heroes. I'm really proud to be carrying the Olympic torch through Bugle, it's a great honour to be chosen.''
From Bugle, the Olympic torch will be taken to Lanivet where it is due to arrive at 5.50pm and on to Bodmin via Dennison Road before the convoy moves on to Liskeard.

Good on him.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Are we having a whip round for the £200 to buy the torch for him?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Overstaffed or couldn't find him a non-driving position after the revision? At least they gave him plenty of noticeA POSTMAN will swap the lanes of Bodmin Moor for the road to London on May 19

Obviously a new walk to him, but Pegasus will make sure he gets done in double quick time at a constant 4.1 mph
New later delivery times for Rurals are in effect, that torch will come in handy on those country lanes. From Bugle, the Olympic torch will be taken to Lanivet where it is due to arrive at 5.50pm and on to Bodmin

Re: Olympics: Postman's pride
What if his PDA crashes ? Can he still hand it over or will that bring the Marathon tradition to a smoldering end ?
Maybe , I should rephrase the last bit in view of present company
