ROYAL Mail have had to block up 16 of their letter boxes after a dozy postie lost the keys.

Bemused customers in the Woodside area of Aberdeen found plastic barriers where the holes for their mail should be.

They have already been without their service for more than a week.

Retired printer John Fraser, 79, said: “This is a ridiculous situation with the current postal charges.”

Neighbour Stella Volkers, 75, added: “A week is an awfully long time.

“It is an inconvenience because you have to go all the way up to the post office to post a letter and I’m not all that able any more.”

Royal Mail apologised and insisted they were sorting the problem out.

A spokeswoman said: “A set of collection keys for the Woodside area were mislaid last weekend.

“We are replacing the locks and hope to reopen the remaining boxes over the next few days.

“We would like to assure our customers that we are attending to this matter as quickly as possible.”

Should they not have a spare set, I bet they are under the van seat, We have had this happen and thats where we usually find them,Dont think he should be called dozy these things happen to everbody.

Yes, they will have a spare set but it's just in case that the keys have fallen into someone elses hands and they don't want someone opening these boxes and taking all the mail.

All our collection keys are kept on a numbered collection board that you take with you on your route.
That way you only have one key on your person at any one time.
