I undersdtand yr frustration Fluke - mistakes in timing have been made BUT a strike has to be successful. A failed strike - would be disastrous & spell the demise of all Unions. Some thought must be given to the unrest in other Public Sector Unions & what they are going to do. In the main - we are militants on here. My own office - is a very 'Bolshi' one. Even so - we still have enough flyers with their heads up a very dark place - ripping the guts out of duties so they can cry 'I'm FAST'! What came 1st - the NEC thinking they 'know best' OR apathy on the 'shop-floor' - I dunno - I'm relatively new to Unions & Socialism! All have patience & support our Union. It's the only one we've got! If we lose this one - then all with backbones - will be seeking other employment.

I was always taught "Prior planning and preparation, prevents piss poor performance". So I understand the PEC need to sort a few things out, but we need to start the ball rolling now! Calling a strike on the 25th which is a Tuesday, is FUBAR. Your office sounds like mine, and people need a wake up call, and if the summary of key issues highlighted on here are anything to go by, then people are going to be pissed. The Union now need to kick start the strikes again and quickly, before apathy sets in. If RM gets their foot in the door with later starts, people will see the CWU as weak.
I am not in favour of an all out strike, as I don't think its is sustainable in the long term. The rolling thunder of the one dayers worked fantastic, although I think they need simplifying. I just don't understand why we don't pick up where we left off, whilst the PEC develop a better long term strategy, which should include banding together with other public sector unions\workers.

This time even if we get them to come back to the table and talk we should carry on with the I A and make the talks open and not done behind closed doors

industrial action plan
Would it be better to go on strike every day,say 2 hours before the end of every shift?on all shifts, It would still amount to 1 days strike but hit Royal Mail every day with no chance of recovery.would this be feasible?

Re: industrial action plan
I don't think that would work, as it would be hard to tell who was actually striking and who was not. Some people would cover that last two hours on docket. In my office we had people that were on strike coming in early the following day and clearing what they hadn't done the previous day at no extra cost.damo wrote:Would it be better to go on strike every day,say 2 hours before the end of every shift?on all shifts, It would still amount to 1 days strike but hit Royal Mail every day with no chance of recovery.would this be feasible?
If it were me calling the shots, I would say go back to our previous action, but also include and overtime ban, stop the muppets that come in early and ban cars on delivery.

The strike should be the same rolling action as before. Need 7 days notice so Friday 21st would be the best start. My reasosn for Friday - Many of my colleagues feel betrayed by the union. 5 weeks of talks and it appears not one thing was agreed. All done in secrecy which makes the outcome even worse. Our negotiators must have known well before 5 weeks that RM were not going to buidge so my colleagues want to know why the IA was not resumed earlier. Now we have Union members, activists), ready to shred their cards, take £2.70 (Subs) + any increase RM give, and then hope for EVR packages. Friday 21st? prospect of a Long Weekend off might I say might just get a good percentage of our office to go out again. The NEC has badly let down the membership at grass roots. A big big percentage of members dont understand the politics behind strikes and negotiations. They have to be informed and kept up to date everyday. We could debate how good are union reps at doing this?

Borders. I do that on a big scale much to the annoyance of my WAMs and with many thanks from my colleagues. I take every opportunity to ask colleagues to log onto this site. MY concern is the secrecy and lack of information from the top to the members. I am serious about the feelings in the office. members are not going to go for strikes, SECRET talks- no action, which is where we are now

Re: INDUSTRIAL ACTION PLAN
How effective was the last "doing your job properly" campaign - well in our office the take up was as rare as rocking horse s**t.brothermagrew wrote:Have heard from a very good source of mine the following with regards to Industrial Action Plan.

It's time the union stopped protecting its own backside and started protecting ours. Stuff the PC legal crap - we stand to lose this fight by being far too complacent as a leadership which breeds complacency on the shop floor.
We had what I presume was a WTL this morning where the Manager announced that later start times would begin on October 8th - and the response from the shop floor - "hey ho is the coffee machine working?".
I'm glad I'm the age I am because a couple of years down the line and you will be reading meters, riding rickshaws, delivering pizzas, blockbuster videos and sweeping the streets.
