Royal Mail has announced its Aylsham delivery office will shut from Monday March 12.
But customers missing routine deliveries will be able to collect, or arrange re-delivery through the Post Office in Budgens in the town.
Some other items such as PO Box mail, deliveries needing a signature or surcharges, will however go to the relocated operation at an improved delivery office at North Walsham.
News of the impending closure had caused some concerns in the town about everyone having to make 17-mile round trips to North Walsham to collect missed mail.
Royal Mail’s delivery sector manager Timothy Brain, said: “We must modernise our operations. The relocation of Aylsham is part of this.
“Customers can be reassured that we will do all we can to minimise disruption and ensure we maintain the high level of service they expect and deserve.”
The switch is part of a shake-up in the face of tough trading conditions and a 40pc fall in mail over the past five years. Bosses said they had been talking to unions about the impact on staff.
Aylsham mail customers who are notified they have an item to collect, will be able to do so at the Post Office in Budgens on Norwich Road, free of charge.
The Post Office is open from 9am – 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 12.30pm on Saturdays. Customers can arrange a free re-delivery on a more convenient day or to a more suitable address in the same postcode area. The service can be accessed online at http://www.royalmail.com/redelivery" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or by calling the number on the card that has been left.
Customers who wish to personally collect items such as PO Box mail, any items needing a signature, or charges to be paid, will be able to collect from the North Walsham delivery office which is undergoing improvements. It is open from 7am-8am and 10am-3pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 7am-8am and 10am-6pm on Wednesdays and 7am to 2pm on Saturdays.
