Where the streets have two names..

A frustrated Preston resident is calling for his street name to be changed because of constant mix-ups with mail and visitors.

Glenn Bonnell is fed up with letters going awry because his street, Newark Place in Savick, has the same name as a street in Fulwood.

He says repair men and other callers continually get confused over the shared street name and have turned up four miles away in Fulwood – or else on Mr Bonnell’s doorstep, looking for the other Newark Place. Both streets have a PR2 postcode.

Mr Bonnell, 57, who has lived with his partner on the street for three years and sells and delivers beer for a brewery, said: “It’s madness to have two streets with the same name in the same town.

“I’m sick of getting the wrong mail – you even put a postcode on and they still get it wrong.

“It’s getting beyond a joke.

“Then there are workmen supposed to be coming who have not turned up or ring to ask why you are not in.

“It’s the inconvenience of it all.

“I rang the Town Hall up about it. I am sure they could change the name. There are only a few bungalows on this part of the road.”

A Preston Council spokesman said to change a street name at least three-quarters of people living there must agree.

Residents can suggest a new name but it needs to be approved by the city council.

The process takes an average of three to six months.

Royal Mail spokesman Heulyn Davies added: “In order to help our postmen and women, we always encourage customers to use the full postal address – including the correct post code which is a crucial part of the sorting and routing instruction for our equipment and staff.

“If any customer has any queries or complaints about our service, we would ask them to contact our customer service department.”

Who allowed them both to be named that in the first place?! One must've been built before the other, so who approved the name of the second one? lol

There are several like that in my office, the only difference is the second part of the postcode but we seem to cope.
