Post Office cashier hid money in her bra

A post office worker lined her bra with notes from the till over a six-month period before making up errors to account for the theft, a court has heard.
Leanne Wheawall pocketed £640 from the till at Stafford Post Office, located inside WHSmith, in Greengate Street in the town centre.
The thefts by the 24-year-old, of Lancing Avenue, Stafford, were spotted when errors in accounting came to light.
Mr Giles Rowden prosecuting at Cannock Magistrates Court said Wheawall was using the till during her employment at the post office inside WHSmith.
“Although she was employed by the post office she had authority to process items from WHSmith,” he said.
“The defendant was taking cash and placing it in her bra and then putting errors through to account for it.
“This came to the attention of WHSmith after some unusual computer information in relation to money that seems to have not been accounted for. She was confronted by WHSmith and admitted it to the manager.”
Wheawall yesterday pleaded guilty to a charge of theft that took place at various times between May and November 2011.
Robert Chadwick, defending, said his client worked at the post office in Stafford from February 2011 until she resigned in November.
He said she had already paid back £213 to the store.
“In a desperate measure she succumbed to temptation” he said.
He added: “She has broken the relationship of trust between the employer and employees. She describes her actions as stupid and is ashamed and embarrassed.”
Wheawall was given a 12 month community order and must complete 80 hours of unpaid work. She was also ordered to pay £85 costs.

The less you pay these people the more this will happen.

Re: Post Office cashier hid money in her bra
I used to work for a Bureau de Change at Manchester Airport, wages weren't great, shifts were cr*p. I was often asked to walk carrying large sums of money (more than I was probably insured for) from Terminal 3 to Terminal 2- quite a walk- past all the check in areas, train station, exits etc. I could very easily have had away with at least £20k in one swoop and had a very long head start (maybe even been abroad) before anyone noticed I was missing, if I was that kind of person. Or I could stage a fake robbery whilst I was en route.
You just have to be of that mindset, regardless of how much you're being paid.

..but the less you pay...the less of the right mindset you attract.TeeferTiger wrote: You just have to be of that mindset, regardless of how much you're being paid.
That's why bank staff make more than shop assistants.
Not a particularly more difficult job but trust comes at a premium.
It's a generalisation so doesn't hold for everybody...but in general it does.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Post Office cashier hid money in her bra
Would big breasts and therefore a big bra facilitate theft in this manner?
Or would small breasts with plenty of room in a size too big bra be more advantageous?
I am obviously discounting exploding implants.

I'd say smaller boobs wearing a bigger bra... but it depends how much you're stealing at a time?clashcityrocker wrote:Would big breasts and therefore a big bra facilitate theft in this manner?

Why discount them, the cost of replacing them may be a mitigating factor.clashcityrocker wrote:Would big breasts and therefore a big bra facilitate theft in this manner?

"Leanne Wheawall pocketed £640 from the till" - one would assume this was in banknotes, not coins.
