MP asks Royal Mail for clarity

MP Joan Walley is demanding reassurances from Royal Mail over the proposed closure of a delivery office.

The Sentinel reported in October that Royal Mail wanted to shut its Kidsgrove base in Congleton Road and move its operations to the delivery office at Knutton.

Joan, the Labour MP for Stoke-on-Trent North, submitted a 1,000-plus petition to Parliament in December.

She said: "I have seen nothing so far from Royal Mail to provide reassurances on how the new arrangements will impact on the quality of services. I am calling on Royal Mail to set out what standards will apply to the service from the new centre and how people will be able to collect undelivered mail."

The site employs about 70 people and, although the Communication Workers' Union has not been notified of any potential redundancies, they fear its closure could mean later deliveries.
