Bruce Grove Post Office destroyed in riots opens new building in Tottenham High Road

A POST office completely destroyed by fire during last August’s riots in Tottenham has reopened in new premises.

Bruce Grove Post Office, in Tottenham High Road near the junction with Dowsett Road, was one of many buildings looted and gutted by fire on the night of August 6 by rioters.

But the branch has opened its new building 60 doors down the road on January 11, five months after the disorder which left more than 50 families homeless.

Subpostmistress Daksha Rao said that it had been “an emotional journey” for the staff, and thanked the community for their support and “amazing comments”.

She added: “I’ll never forget that night and watching the horrific scenes on TV, but together we’ve shown that we can get through anything and remain part of this fantastic community.”

The new branch has improved wheelchair access but no cash machine outside like its predecessor.
