An elderly man foiled an armed robbery by tussling with a knife-wielding raider.

The 75-year-old man even managed to grab the robber's crash helmet after he had had burst into the Premier Store post office, Widdicombe Way, Brighton.

The offender managed to flee on a moped driven by a second man after the incident on Wednesday.

Det Con Robin Aspin, from Sussex Police, praised the bravery of the man who intervened.

He said: "He is to be applauded for his bravery and his action has given us a very good chance of finding the suspects.

"As they made their escape, the pillion passenger would have stood out because he wasn't wearing a helmet and someone out there will almost certainly be aware if someone they know has returned home without his usual crash helmet."

No-one was injured in the incident.

And if he'd been stabbed, they'd have said he was foolish for trying to help...
Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?
