PRESELI Pembrokeshire MP Stephen Crabb has raised concerns over the merger of Milford Haven and Haverfordwest delivery offices with Royal Mail representatives.

Mr Crabb met Royal Mail collection and delivery director Ian Edwards and media relations manager Val Bodden at his office on Friday to discuss the proposals, which would see the Milford Haven office close and the 28 jobs transferred to the Haverfordwest delivery office.

Mr Crabb said he was pleased Royal Mail agreed to the meeting.

“I was able to explain to them that the transferral of 28 good jobs out of the town centre would be a huge blow for Milford.

“As I saw when I visited the facility a fortnight ago, they are a superb team of post men and women running one of the best delivery offices in west Wales.”

Mr Crabb said he hopes Royal Mail will look again at its proposals, adding: “I was pleased that they listened to the evidence over the Fishguard delivery office and they have made clear that they will look closely at all new information we can provide.

“They face a huge challenge in changing their business to cope with increasing parcel but falling letter deliveries, but I want to see solutions which support and sustain our communities for the future.

No, not 'merge', that's a positive word as if both are equals, it's more of a 'takeover' with the inevitable immediate closure of the smaller unit.

Even if they don't,even if a small victory is won it just means another target is sourced from the big bag of potential mergers/takeovers.
