As payment problems continue for some temporary workers at the Royal Mail, the postal organization has told Recruiter that it has put in place “additional payment channels” to ensure that workers are paid.

The emergency measures being taken include “staff receiving either a cash payment or a voucher which can then be redeemed for the relevant amount of cash at any Post Office branch,” a Royal Mail spokesman told Recruiter. “In some cases, we have overpaid people in order to expedite payments. We will, of course, be making appropriate adjustments in future payments.”

“Firm action is being taken to resolve outstanding pay issues,” the spokesman emphasised. “The vast majority of our Christmas temporary recruits have been paid as usual into their bank accounts. Where this was not possible, we have made huge efforts to put in place additional payment channels.”

He added, “We apologise for the difficulties that this situation has caused to a minority of our temporary workers. We are determined to ensure that staff receive their correct pay as soon as possible.”

In a separate statement, Reed, a provider of a number of recruitment services to Royal Mail confirmed that “a minority of staff” were not paid last Friday. “We have worked very hard over the weekend to ensure that this is rectified as soon as possible.”

Last Friday marked the second pay date that some of the Royal Mail’s temporary seasonal workers had problems with pay such as under or non-payment.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
