royal Mail has been urged to tell Watford residents the true extent of the postal backlog, after Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Opik toured the town's sorting office today.
Mr Opik, the Lib Dem Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, together with Watford Mayor Dorothy Thornhill and Lib Dem prospective parliamentary candidate Sal Brinton, met Royal Mail chiefs at the depot in Ascot Road to discuss the town's mail problems.
The backlog of several thousand packages has now moved to Berkhamsted and the party was told managers were making "significant headway" to clear the problem.
However, it is still unclear when the last packages will be delivered and Royal Mail were urged to inform local people about how the situation is being resolved.
Mr Opik said: "We haven't got a happy ending yet but it's possible. They just have to find a way."
Ms Brinton added: "The patient is out of intensive care but is still under observation."

No Watford aint on strike.....................................yet,the office is in a god dam mess, thanks to the managers incompetence, the problem at the moment there are the cut offs, along with the mailsort 3 stuff thats been held back. The Delivery Manager has been the biggest pain in the rear god ever put on this earth,if anyone else had been in charge it would of all been cleared up by now.Managers from other offices were in doing deliveries once again, this has been happening for weeks now and also the casuals have been doing deliveries.Believe it or believe it not,two firms deliveries did'nt go out for 3 days running last week.
Its a complete shambles and i cant see it getting any better, peoples pay has been stopped and tempers are frayed to say the least, the fuse is getting shorter and shorter, once ignited there'll be one hell of an explosion.
If the results of the talks aint good,i smell trouble.
