ROYAL Mail has apologised for the inconvinience caused by the removal of a post box in Park Street.

District councillor Steve Bowes-Phipps raised the issue with the company after hearing from villagers who say they are forced to travel further to post their letters.

He said a pillar box is needed in the area, especially to help elderly residents who are not able to make the longer journey.

Sally Hopkins, spokesperson for Royal Mail, said: "We are committed to replacing the postbox removed from a former Post Office building in Park Street. "We are currently assessing some possible sites nearby and, subject to a suitable site being found, anticipate that we should be able to install a new postbox soon.

"We would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience this may cause. We are making every effort to replace this box as soon as possible.

"In the meantime, customers can use other postboxes nearby or any Post Office branch."
