BLAENAU Gwent Assembly Member Alun Davies said he was disappointed at the latest figures announced by the Royal Mail which shows the targets for delivering first and second class post have been missed for the three month period to early June.

Royal Mail delivered 88.9 percent of mail on time in the NP postcode area compared to its target of delivering 91.5 percent next day for first class post and within three working days for second class post.

Mr Davies said: “These figures are very disappointing. The Royal Mail has failed to reach their targets for delivery of mail in our area. I understand that the Royal Mail has been implementing some modernisation work and I hope that these issues will now be addressed as a matter of urgency.”

He said he would be writing to the Royal Mail asking it to ensure the issues which are causing the delays are dealt with urgently.

“I wholeheartedly support our postmen and women and the work they do on a daily basis, however Royal Mail need to do all in their power to ensure that they are able to deliver mail on time,” he said.
