A ROYAL Mail employee is being investigated after claims he hoarded thousands of letters and parcels from his delivery round.
Residents in some areas of Royton had complained about missing items of post for up to four months.
The Chronicle received a tip-off that the man was found with over 15,000 unopened letters and opened parcels when he was investigated.
It is believed that test letters were sent to certain addresses on the post round but they were never received.
Police say they are not involved in the investigation.
A Royal Mail pokesperson Marie Gray said: “An investigation is under way after a quantity of undelivered mail for the OL2, OL8 and OL9 postcode areas was discovered.
“We apologise to customers affected for any inconvenience. Anyone with concerns about their mail delivery service can contact Royal Mail Customer Services on 08457-740 740.”Royal Mail has refused to comment on finer details of the incident.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I was re-interviewed, and any things not fully clear on my initial application, were discussed prior to finally geting the job!

Re: Postman probe over missing mail
This is happening because to many postman are too scared and say no to the dom. Doms are bullying and harassing staff up and down the country and getting away with it. I don't condone people who don't deliver the mail.
Our union should be re-addressing the rules regarding uncompleted deliveries etc.

Roughly how long ago was that?stokes11eg wrote:POSTMAN wrote:How many more ffs, would be interesting to know the full facts on all of these, are they newbies, part timers, old skool, there must be a pattern.Sadly, R/M do not vet newcomers like they used too! It was done properly in the past, and going back to my own start, even after initial interview, and long wait for acceptance,

I've in the business for quite a few years and I know that my references don't appear to have been checked*.... NOT THAT THERE IS/WAS ANYTHING OF CONCERN IN THEM but from what I've seen things have been massively tightened up.... one person here started and got dismissed (apparently) because of his refs.
* the people that I offered as personal references where never contacted... neither was my former employer, not sure about the one before that though.

I agree to an extent BUT surely there are other routes to saying you have problems than just the DOM.steven100 wrote:This is happening because to many postman are too scared and say no to the dom. Depends all 3 post codes may be in same office. In ours if we had a dodgy reserve its possible 5 Post Codes could be affected.Lounge Lizard wrote:“An investigation is under way after a quantity of undelivered mail for the OL2, OL8 and OL9 postcode areas was discovered." - rarely does this sort of thing involve theft from THREE Postcode Districts.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:http://www.oldham-chronicle.co.uk/news- ... ssing-mail

Re: Postman probe over missing mail
I think it's a mixed bunch, like i previously posted would be interesting to see, dare i say it,i wouldn't blame it 'all' on management.
From memory though and Teebs has a better one than me,i'm sure over the last couple of years it has got a lot worse.
Teebs has been doing his thing for nearly 5 years now and 'seems' to be busier than ever with these type of news items.

Re: Postman probe over missing mail
Your right it isn't just the dom, maybe even in most cases. Some people just don't have any morals. Thats why the union has readdress postman rights regarding cutoffs etc.Indy wrote:I agree to an extent BUT surely there are other routes to saying you have problems than just the DOM.steven100 wrote:This is happening because to many postman are too scared and say no to the dom. The jobs harder and more stressful than 5 years ago...nobody would argue about that.POSTMAN wrote: Teebs has been doing his thing for nearly 5 years now and 'seems' to be busier than ever with these type of news items.
Quality of management is the poorest i've ever seen.......
Help/support from colleagues/union.......where??
Then there are the scumbag reasons..
Lazy feckers who would normally just have jacked it in know there are no jobs out there..
E-bay and internet shopping means there's more out there you can nick and easily move on..
good times, bad times you know I've had my share
