The Royal Mail will take on fewer extra temporary staff than previously to assist with the Christmas mail. This is because of lower postal volumes.
It aims to hire 18,000 extra staff, 2,000 fewer than last year. They will start being recruited from mid November and leave early in January.
They will work in mail and distribution centres across the UK, sorting Christmas cards and packets.
The Royal Mail has around 130,000 permanent staff.
