Postman Darren delivers on charity bike ride

STOCKSBRIDGE postie Darren Gill completed the round of his life to raise cash for the charity Heartline.

Darren, a member of Birdwell Wheelers and Stocksbridge Cycling Club, rode more than 1,000 miles in nine days from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise £1,460 for the charity.

The charity helps children with heart problems and supports their families.

Darren said his nephew Lewis Needham was born with a heart condition and Heartline has offered his family remarkable assistance over the years.

He said: “Lewis is doing incredibly well, but unfortunately there are children that aren’t so fortunate, so every pound is precious.

“I would like to thank everyone who sponsored the ride. With special thanks to Claremont Hospital, Elliot Browne and the wonderful support crew without which the ride would not have been a success.”
