CONCERNS will be raised at a full council meeting in Hull over the transfer of mail processing in the city to Sheffield.
There are fears collection times will have to be brought forward for mail to make the 70-mile journey and be brought back to Hull.
Royal Mail said the changes were necessary and followed five months of consultation with unions.
Now, Councillor Steve Bayes is urging the council to start a campaign for mail processing to remain at the Malmo Road office in east Hull.
He will ask for a letter to be sent to Royal Mail in a motion to full council next Thursday.
Marie Gray, spokeswoman for Royal Mail, said the business could "operate most effectively" with a regional network of three centres in Tyneside, Leeds and Sheffield.
She said: "As part of these changes, processing work from Hull Mail Centre will transfer to an extended Sheffield mail centre whilst delivery and collection operations will remain at the current site on Malmo Road.
"Hull Mail Centre is expected to remain open until 2015."
The spokeswoman said the majority of staff at the Malmo Road site will continue to be employed there.
