ROYAL Mail just missed its target for delivering first class stamped and franked mail by the next day in the TA postcode area from the end of March to early June.

A total of 91.3% of letters made it by the next day, just short of the 91.5% target.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “Disruption to air services caused by ash from an Icelandic volcanic eruption for several days in May had some adverse impact on first class mail which travels overnight by air.

“Some areas in the South-West also saw some operational changes during the spring quarter.”
