Town loses fight to keep its postman

ROYAL Mail bosses have rejected pleas not to take away Wilton’s popular postman.

The company is changing postal routes in the town and plans to move Justin Sainsbury, who has delivered post there for 20 years, to a round in Barford St Martin.

The prospect of Mr Sainsbury’s move prompted an official protest from the town council last week.

Members voted unanimously last Tuesday to write to Royal Mail objecting to delivery rounds being altered.

Residents say that in addition to providing a good service, Mr Sainsbury looks out for the elderly, and even runs errands for those unable to go out.

The council said the shake-up is causing “a great deal of irritation and upset” to the public and the business community.

Cllr Peter Edge said: “We think it’s change for change’s sake. I am sure it must be more efficient if someone has intimate knowledge of the round and all its little local peculiarities and is able to deliver a personalised service.”

A petition has already been sent by residents to Royal Mail.

But the organisation is not going to change its mind.

A spokesman said it was “always gratifying” when customers appreciated staff’s hard work.

However, Royal Mail was handling fewer letters and more parcels, and had brought in new machinery to handle backroom work and make it more efficient, so it needed to change its delivery system.

The company said there had been no job losses and the quality of service would stay the same.

Thats why their moving him, they're trying to disrupt any postie who cares about their customers.
Care doesn't add up on the office budget sheet.

quality of service would stay the same.
They are moving a postman that knows the area like the back of his hand to replace him with someone that doesn't, QoS remains the same though, hmmmm...
And since when did any revision equate to QoS remaining the same, oh yes, never, the service will get worse as long as RM management are hell bent on cost-cutting and lining their own pockets with bonuses earned off our backs!

He's been delivering there for 20 years...so has at least 20 years service.
Unless he's a mug the decision to move duties was probably his.
Maybe Wilton is now a bigger duty or part of a P&L and he doesn't fancy it. :whistle

He would provide a good service, look out for the elderly and even runs errands for those unable to go out but maybe they didn't remember him each Christmas.

So there you have it.
A Town Council wasting it's time and your money trying to keep a postman who doesn't want to be kept.
Isn't small town politics marvellous...just as useless as the real thing. :chuckle
