TRIBUTES have been paid to a former Coventry Rolls-Royce worker and postman who was killed in a car crash.

John Hextall, a 70-year-old grandfather, was driving a blue Suzuki Swift when it collided with a white Ford Transit van on a country lane in Lincolnshire.

He worked for Rolls-Royce at Coventry for 30 years and went on to become a postman for the village of Fillongley.

The accident was near Thimbleby Lakes, Horncastle, just before 11.30am last Wednesday and Mr Hextall died after being cut from the wreckage of his car and airlifted to hospital.

Although beginning his working career as a police officer in Welwyn Garden City, Mr Hextall moved to Nuneaton and was employed at Rolls-Royce.

After retiring from the plant at the age of 58, he became a part-time postman.

His wife Josie said: “John was a very active man who quickly became bored with retirement.

“He loved being a postman and said it was the best job he ever had.

“He did the round on a bicycle and delivered the mail in snow, ice and all weathers.

“The villagers all loved him and he would return home regularly with fresh eggs and laden with gifts at Christmas.”

The couple have three sons, Simon, Andrew and Nathan, a daughter, Tania and eight grandchildren, Nathan, Harley, Holly, Charlotte, Scarlett, Amber, Gemma and Tiegan.
