“I’m still fighting with Royal Mail workers to keep Guisborough Royal Mail sorting office open”

Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland Labour MP, Tom Blenkinsop, said today (27th July 2011) that he was continuing to battle to keep the threatened Royal Mail Guisborough sorting office open.

Tom said: “Yesterday afternoon I visited the office and met with the staff. I am delighted that they are not taking the threatened closure lying down, and they are campaigning in the town to keep this local service alive for local residents and businesses. I was also pleased to see that local councillors and members of all political parties in the town – including government parties – are also backing the local staff”.

“I have said that I am giving them 100% support, and will continue to press top Royal Mail bosses to think again about a decision that will both inconvenience local people and mean a worse service. What is happening here is just another example of the government’s drive to slim down the Royal Mail so that it can be sold in bite sized pieces to private interests.”

Perhaps "fighting alongside" would be a better title - at the moment it sounds like the workers are against him.
