ROYAL Mail customers have been warned not to send noisy items through the post after sounds from a “suspicious package” sparked a bomb scare.

Police and explosive experts rushed to the sorting office in Vale Road, Rhyl, after staff heard strange noises coming from a mail sack.

Nearby houses and businesses, including Matalan and Brantano, were evacuated while investigations were carried out. Officers identified the item and warned the sender of the scare it had caused.

Police and Royal Mail officials would not confirm what was inside the package, but locals said it was rumoured to be a mobile phone.

Resident Michelle Thomas watched the drama unfold just after 3.45pm on Wednesday. She told the Daily Post: “Police evacuated the Millbank pub and all the houses opposite mine as they back onto the sorting office.

“Everyone was told to go to the Ffordd Las community centre in Rhyl.

“There were police cars and officers everywhere, stopping cars from using Mill Bank Road and pedestrians from using the nearby footpath.”

Chief inspector Andrew Williams said: “Police were contacted by staff at the Royal Mail sorting office expressing concerns over noises emitted from a package within a mail sack inside the building.

“Police attended and, following an initial assessment of the situation, some commercial premises and a small number of residential properties in the immediate vicinity were evacuated as a precaution. The area was returned to normality a short while later.

“As is usual in situations such as this, the ordinance disposal unit was requested to assist. A subsequent assessment of the package satisfied us the circumstances were not suspicious.

“The sender of the package has been identified and appropriate advice has been given.

“We are particularly grateful to the local community for their patience, cooperation and understanding during this incident.”

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “We can confirm that a member of our team reported a suspect package inside a mail bag.

“The safety of our people is Royal Mail’s top priority and we have very well established procedures when suspect items are discovered. We are pleased to confirm this was a false alarm. There was minimal disruption to our customers’ service.”

It was "rumoured" to be a mobile phone.
That means it was another vibrator.......... :cuppa something never previously seen or heard in that part of Wales.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
