Royal Mail figures released to civilsociety.co.uk show for the first time the extent to which some charity donors are being bombarded with mail by organisations keen to win or retain their support over the busy Christmas and New Year period.
Information about charity direct mailings from September 2010 to February 2011 has been shared with civilsociety.co.uk and show that there is a huge amount of cross-over between the mailing files of charities with large direct mail programmes.
The Royal Mail data does not explain why there is a high level of cross-over; whether this is a result of charities specifically targeting other charities' donors, or whether there are simply some supporters who wish to receive mail from, and donate to, multiple organisations. What it does show, however, is that some supporters are getting mailed a lot...

Charities mailing each others supporters in the millions
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Two addresses on my walk receive begging letters from charities on a daily basis and I can't believe that either donates to dozens of charities each year so I assume that charitioes must sell addresses of donors to each other.

Re: Charities mailing each others supporters in the millions
I have standing order payments to a couple of charities and have made occasional one off donations to others.
But I get ongoing requests soliciting donations from the charities I made one off donations to, and letters from other charities who I certainly have not given my address to.
It does make me reluctant to make donations to other charities unfortunately, and it makes me wonder how much they spend on unsolicited mailings, but I guess they must get a return or it wouldn't be worth their while.

There is big money in selling mailing lists.
In the USA a start up selling names and address $5 per 100 names; $20 for 500 names; and $40 for 1,000 names.
So say £25 for 1,000 names - selling 1,000,000 = £25k (Nice way of earning extra money for your charity never mind the donations you may pick up from that 1,000,000)
