Chatteris mail office to close

THE Royal Mail office in Chatteris is to close and relocate to March from next summer.


With declining mail volumes and tough trading conditions being blamed, the Park Street delivery office will move its operations to the Dartford Road office in March.

In a statement released by Royal Mail, it states there are now 18 million fewer letters posted every day in the UK compared to five years ago.

It also said the move of the Chatteris operation will provide “improved working conditions, secure employment and a more cost effective operation”.

Royal Mail’s Anglia Operations Director, Nicola Scrivings said: “We are telling our people about the move now before the detailed planning starts.

“We want to be able to work with our people on the change and have the opportunity to discuss the implications with individuals.”

There will be no compulsory redundancies as a result of this change
