A postwoman who was suspended by Royal Mail after a thief tried to steal her van today told of living in limbo as she waits to hear if she will be sacked – more than a month after she was told the decision would be made.

Julie Roberts clung to the bonnet of her work van for nearly a mile as it was driven off by an opportunist thief in Trysull, only to be suspended for leaving her keys in the ignition.

She had a disciplinary hearing at the beginning of last month, during which she was told a decision would be made in days.

But speaking to the Express & Star today, Miss Roberts revealed that she is still waiting to hear on the outcome of the Royal Mail’s investigation.

“I’ve had to put my life on hold really. Everything is in limbo. I can’t do things around the house because I don’t dare spend any money in case I lose the job,” said the 51-year-old.

“I’m stuck. Every time the doorbell rings I’m wondering if its news of what’s going to happen.”
