ROYAL Mail has confirmed this week that its state-of-the-art sorting office will soon be operational and workers will start moving in during August.
The news brings fresh concerns for Berkhamsted campaigners who have been lobbying against the plans because the town’s delivery office will be relocated to the new site in Maxted Road, Hemel Hempstead.
People will have to collect undelivered post from there between 7am and 7pm Monday to Friday and 7am and 2pm on Saturday or arrange for mail to be redelivered free of charge.
Berkhamsted Citizens Association chairman Susan Johnson said: “This is totally unacceptable because it is a 14-mile round trip by car or a journey in two buses and a walk to get there. Logistically, it’s a nightmare.”
Royal Mail is centralising its Watford and Stevenage sorting operations in Hemel Hempstead due to a downturn in sales figures. The project will involve the loss of 300 jobs as sorting offices in those towns close.

Are they correct in their report? A loss of 300 jobs? The project will involve the loss of 300 jobs as sorting offices in those towns close.
No compulsory redundancies? Alternative work for all those who want it?
Anyone looking in who knows the true story, can you confirm?

Saw the title and thought they were going to bring back the Mail Train! Nothing would surprise me.
